All About LCD Televisons - Features And Factors To Consider Before Purchasing
LCD televisions have a screen which contains pixels. Each pixel is produced by a small cell which contains a think layer of liquid crystals. It is in actual fact the same display technology that is in your digital watch, only it is more sophisticated. An LCD screen is usually much clearer than that of a CRT screen which can suffer from difficulty in focusing. Their clearness means that even a small LCD screen can have a higher resolution that the same sized CRT.
The resolution is a major factor for both CRTs and LCD televisions. The number of pixels horizontally and vertically defines a monitor's resolution in pixels or dots per inch (ppi or dpi). The greater the resolution, the more information or image you'll be able to view at once. A variety of extras can be included with an LCD television set. Some of these extras include: · Built-in speakers · Headphones · Microphones · Dual inputs - this is so that you can connect two computers to the same monitor. · USB hubs can be included at the back of the monitor, which allows you to connect more peripherals. It is also possible to purchase accessories, such as anti-glare filters and specialized mountain stands. Some of the features included in an LCD television are: Viewing Angle An LCD television differs from that of a CRT due to their limited viewing angle. When viewing an LCD screen from straight ahead then the picture is fine, but as you look at it from the side, the picture alters dramatically, giving it a hazy look. There are different sized LCD screens available. When purchasing a cheaper model, they can have a viewing angle of only 100 degrees. A standard 15 inch LCD screen has a 140 degree angle, and an 18 inch LCD screen can be increased by 20 to 40 degrees. Brightness An LCD flat screen television hasseveral backlights which provides illumination, which is far better than that of a CRT screen. This brightness is measured in units which are called nits. Most LCD screens have 150 to 200 nits. However, they are more prone to breaking as they are very fragile. These backlights usually come with only a one year guarantee. Positioning It is possible to change the positioning of the display. The most common way is landscape, however, some LCD screens can pivot to 90 degrees in order for it to be viewed in portrait. With some LCD screens it is possible to tilt and turn then. Or, of course not forgetting, mounting them on a wall like a picture. It is also possible to have an LCD television in any room, due to its space-saving, compact design. But the main beauty of an LCD television is that it is immune to the distortion and negative color balances that one may encounter when using a conventional CRT television near fluorescent lighting or speaker systems. |
